Our Plan Going Forward for a Native App

We are now working on a Native App, as well, for 2 primary reasons:

  1. A Native App will allow parents and staff to check-in and out on their phone once they are in the viccinity of the iCare Lobby Tablet. If the Lobby Tablet is configured for an automated electronic door strike, when they check-in on their phone the door will also open.
  2. The Native App will make the notifications feature easier to use.

Hello user,

Mobile apps are of two types,

  1. Native Apps: Apps that are developed for one particular device and are downloaded on a mobile/tablet from app marketplaces. Native apps have limited functionality because of the proprietary developmental kits.
  2. Web Apps: Internet enabled apps that are accessible from web browsers on mobile devices. Web apps are not downloaded and can be accessed with a web browser and internet.

Native and Web Apps have their pros and cons. In general, Native Apps have more access to the phone/tablet's hardware; whereas, Web Apps can provide more features because they are built with modern web technologies.

iCare is a Web app, which is highly responsive on all desktop/mobile/tablet devices. It has features such as:

  • Camera access for uploading pictures by teachers
  • Ding feature for sending SMS/text notifications to parents when children's journal or photos are updated
  • Wireless/Bluetooth for door security

Thanks,

Team iCare
